Mercabarna is one of the signatories to this commitment establishing the actions and strategies to follow to progress towards a more sustainable, efficient and rational Barcelona in terms of the use of resources and greater fairness in the distribution of profits.
Barcelona City Council
Barcelona City Council is the majority shareholder in Mercabarna, through the municipal company "Barcelona Municipal Services" (B: SM) which has a 51% stake in the city's wholesale market.
Alimentaria is one of the most important food and drink trade fairs in the world. This fair takes place in Barcelona every two years and attracts the major international operators from the food processing, trade and distribution sectors. Mercabarna is one of the members of the Organising Committee.
Association to Promote Eating 5 Pieces of Fruit and Vegetable a Day
A national non-profit association which aims to spread the '5 a Day' message, with the campaign's philosophy being taken up by Mercabarna. Mercabarna is also a member of its management board.
Barcelona-Catalonia Logistics Centre (BCL)
A platform that works to improve the logistics sector in Catalonia, encouraging the construction of the necessary infrastructure networks for the development of this industry. This association is run by the Government of Catalonia, Barcelona City Council, the Barcelona Port Authority and the Zona Franca Consortium, and includes the different stakeholders involved in the logistics chain. Mercabarna is a member of the executive committee.
Mercabarna is a shareholder in this public agency involved in strategic planning, town planning and infrastructures, led by Barcelona City Council and made up of public sector organisations and companies.
Barcelona Serveis Municipals (B:SM)
Municipal limited company owned by Barcelona City Council which has shares in other municipal companies and also manages various services and infrastructures related to mobility and leisure. Through B:SM, Barcelona City Council has 51% of the shares in Mercabarna.

Mercabarna forms part of this body, under the authority of the Government of Catalonia and made up of institutions and companies from the agro-food industry. It aims to provide maximum transparency in the setting of food prices and encourages dialogue between the chain's different agents.

The Pedagogical Coordination Council
Created by Barcelona City Council, the Pedagogical Coordination Council coordinates the civic organisations and institutions that offer educational activities for schoolchildren. Mercabarna forms part of this organisation by offering its children's educational activities: '5 A Day', 'Grow Up With Fish' and 'Flowers and Plants Every Day'.
The Centre for Agro-food Economy and Development was created in response to the need to encourage the structuring of a Catalan public system for research and development in the agro-food industry. Mercabarna is a member of the board.

A national company that manages the network of Spanish wholesale markets, together with the respective city councils, and a dozen self-managed retail centres.
In total, the Mercasa network of wholesale markets comprises 23 food estates across Spain. Its shareholders are: Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales (SEPI) and Spain's Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. Mercasa is one of the shareholders of Mercabarna.
