The National Association of Wholesale Market Fishmongers (ANMAPE), of which Mercabarna’s Fish Wholesalers’ Business Association (GMP) is a member, and the Spanish Fishing Confederation (Cepesca) will once again implement the “Enjoy Eating Fish” campaign to promote the consumption of fish and seafood across Spain.
A delegation from Rome, comprising technical officers from the company Centro Ingrosso Fiori, visited Mercabarna-flor in the company of market managers on 26 July to learn about its facilities and technical features. Centro Ingrosso Fiori, created by the Italian capital’s Chamber of Commerce and City Council, is responsible for the design and construction of a new wholesale flower market in Rome that will be more modern and functional than the present one.
Increasing public concern about the treatment of animals in slaughterhouses has led the Catalan Federation of Meat Industries (FECIC) to commission the Institute for Agrofood Research and Technology (IRTA) to prepare an animal welfare protocol for Catalan slaughterhouses, certified by the company Community Certification Institute (ICC) and based on the European ‘Welfare Quality’ standard.
On July 7, will be held an information day on the 7th edition of the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management Wholesale Food, course organized by the Association of Dealers Mercabarna (ASSOCOME) Triptolemos Foundation and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), which will begin in mid-October.
The working groups of the Association of Food Cluster Barcelona Mercabarna, organization that promotes integrated and where the Consortium of the Zona Franca, 22 @ Barcelona ASSOCOME and 18 food companies, are already running. Groups, innovation processes, logistics and food safety, have made June the first meetings so that members know and firms begin to emerge initiatives and alliances.

Representatives from the Mercabarna Slaughterhouse, Mercolleida and the Talavera de la Reina market (which groups together the meat sector from central and southern Spain) met in Lleida on 26 January for the weekly sector conference to set beef prices for the whole of the national market, attended by a number of high-profile participants.
