Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is the driving force behind the contents of this yearly report, making this a transversal feature of the wholesale food market's management.
Mercabarna has drawn up its first Sustainability Report, and becomes the first wholesale market in Spain to opt for this format, focusing on CSR. The main characteristic of this type of yearly report is that it serves to analyse the economic, environmental and social impact of the company on the environment in which its business activities are carried out. In this regard, the Sustainability Report is a tool that helps to establish and readjust the actions of those companies which aim to be more socially responsible, like Mercabarna.
In the preparation of this report, the indicators taken into consideration are those established by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the leading institution in the field of sustainability reports. The outcome of this task of summary and analysis is an exercise in transparency, through which Mercabarna demonstrates how it is organised, what the strategic objectives it pursues are, and which policies and actions it will implement to put these into practice.
In this report, Mercabarna also includes the most significant events which have taken place in the Food Unit during 2017, and the marketing data from the different sectors.
