Barcelona City Council
Barcelona City Council is the majority shareholder in Mercabarna, through the municipal company Barcelona Serveis Municipals (B:SM), which holds 51% of the shares in the city’s wholesale market.
Barcelona Serveis Municipals (B:SM)
Barcelona Serveis Municipals (B:SM) is a municipal limited company owned by Barcelona City Council. B:SM holds municipal shares in other municipal companies and also manages various services and infrastructures connected with mobility and leisure.
Through B:SM, Barcelona City Council holds 51% of the shares in Mercabarna.
Mercasa (Spanish Markets Network)
Mercasa is a state company that, together with the respective town councils, administers the network of Spanish wholesale markets as well as a dozen shopping centres which it administers alone. It also collaborates with the Autonomous Communities and trader’s associations on the modernisation of municipal retail markets.
In total the Mercasa network of wholesale markets consists of 23 food supply units (also known as Mercas) throughout Spain.
Mercasa shareholders are: the Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales - SEPI (State Enterprise for Industrial Participation) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries.
The World Union of Wholesale Markets
A not-for-profit association that promotes the exchange of information and experiences between wholesale and retailer markets around the world with the aim of improving the way they work, their organisation and their administration.
Barcelona Regional
An agency founded by public sector companies and bodies with the aim of providing technical assistance in the fields of infrastructure and urban development in the Barcelona Metropolitan Region.
Barcelona Centre Logístic Catalunya (BCL)
A platform that works to improve the logistic infrastructures in Catalonia by promoting the construction of necessary infrastructure networks.
Members include the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia), Barcelona City Council, the Port of Barcelona Authority, the Zona Franca Consortium, and the various actors involved in the logistics chain (transport, public administrations, professional associations, service industries and end users).
Agenda 21 BCN
A citizens’ undertaking to define the actions and strategies needed to progress towards a more sustainable, efficient and rational Barcelona in the use of resources and towards a city that shows more solidarity in sharing benefits.
The Mediterranean Diet Foundation
A foundation, promoted by companies in the agriculture and food industries around Spain, with the aim of encouraging the consumption of traditional produce from the Mediterranean region.
Association for the Promotion of the Consumption of Fruit and Vegetables "Five a Day"
The aim of this not-for-profit association, that is active throughout Spain, is to encourage people to eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables per day in order to maintain a healthy and balanced diet.
Members of the association include people, institutions and companies that agree with this message and wish to collaborate by raising awareness about it.
ELIGE (Local Bussinesses of General Interest)
A group of local public-administration organisations of general interest to any sector or sphere of action in Spain.
It groups together municipal markets, companies providing water, funeral and cleaning services and other public services in general.
