Mercabarna-flor is up and running. The new flower market is at Ctra. Antigua de Valencia (B-204), número 1, on land belonging mainly to Sant Boi de Llobregat, but also Prat de Llobregat.
It is a strategic site outside Mercabarna that is very well connected and located next to the cargo terminal at Barcelona Airport.
The new centre has three times the area and product range of the old one. The provisional market comprised 5,000 m2 of buildings, while the new market has 15,000 m2 of buildings on a 44,000 m2 lot.
Specifically, with regard to cut flowers, the produce on offer has expanded from covering 1,500 m2 of space to 3,300 m2; the space devoted to plants has grown from 1,000 m2 to 4,300 m2; and, as for accessories, Mercabarna-flor has the biggest range in Europe, in terms of both quantity and variety (up from 1,000 m2 to 3,800m2).
The new Mercabarna-flor, which has involved the investment of 24 million euros, takes the current market concept to new heights. Its strategic location, carefully planned infrastructures and wide range of goods and services will ensure it becomes a major specialized business centre and one that aims to lead the sector.
Mercabarna-flor is a modern and functional building. The features of the project take into account the specific qualities of the products marketed onsite. There are three different areas:
The new market has three times the area (15,000 m2 over two floors) and range of goods on offer of the old Central Market. It features new customer services (floral art schools, permanent training classrooms, special rooms for preparing floral works, a restaurant/snack bar, etc.) and facilitates the work of wholesalers and consumers in a loading and unloading area that covers around 240 linear metres of bays.
The complex also includes a 450-vehicle car park on the premises.
Finally, it has quadrupled its business hours.
