The project for the new Flower Market
The new Flower Market, called Mercabarna-flor, will be located outside the Mercabarna precinct in well-connected and strategically located premises next to the cargo terminal at Barcelona airport. The lands are mainly in Sant Boi de Llobregat, but also in El Prat de Llobregat.
The building will cover 16,000 square metres within a plot of 44,000 square metres.
The various zones in the project reflect the different kinds of product traded. There will be one zone for cut flowers with cold store facilities to keep products in optimum condition; a zone for plants designed with natural light controls (similar to a greenhouse); and another zone for dried flowers and complementary items with a large display and storage area.
Mercabarna-flor will be an advance on current market models. Its strategic position, its studied infrastructure and its wide variety of products and services will make it a large, specialised business centre with the ambition to be the leader in its sector. (Seeing maps)
